Green the Eastside

This spring and summer, we’re working to make the Eastside greener, healthier, and more resilient! With the Green the Eastside initiative, we will be adding more plants to the neighborhood. We want to hear from community members about what kinds of plants are most important for the community, and where they should go. Possible types of plants include:

Flood plants, such as rain gardens, that retain and absorb water to reduce flooding, stormwater runoff, and the spread of pollutants.

Shade plants, such as trees and other shrubs, to add shade and cool the temperature in the summer.

Food gardens to provide a source of low-cost, healthy food.

Historically important plants, such as Indigo.

We also want to have a conversation about how plants can provide education for children, job opportunities for adults, and generally how public spaces in the neighborhood can be improved.

Please share your thoughts by coming to a listening session! If you can’t make it, you can also take our survey by clicking here.
